The project is a strategic action meant to support the Romanian authorities to adopt a coordinated approach in addressing the challenges raised by the implementation of the Istanbul Convention, wich Romania ratified on 2016, March 23.
Aiming at adressing domestic violence and violence against women, this project will contribute to the achievement of the main objective of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, reducing of the economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area.
The project is part of the Justice Programme, operated by the Romanian Ministry of Justice
The project is targeting the following main objectives:

Evaluation of the Romanian institutional set-up in the field of domestic violence and violence against women

Improvement of the multiagency judiciary and law enforcement intervention methods

Support for the specialized social services of domestic and gender based violence

Establishment of counselling services for perpetrators

Counselling for the sexual violence victims

Conducting campaigns for preventing domestic violence and violence against women
The Istanbul Convention
Is the international treaty of the Council of Europe against violence against women and domestic violence which was opened for signature on 11 May 2011, in Istanbul, Turkey. The Convention aims at prevention of violence, victim protection and to end the impunity of perpetrators
The Convention it has been signed by 46 countries ant ratified by 34 of these states.
Romania signed the Istanbul Convention in June 2014 and ratified it in March 2016 by Law 30/2016. The Convention entered into force starting September 2016.
